Hello

I'm Maria and I'm the founder and the lead organiser for Loving Yarns and Crafts Group at Grimsargh Village Hall.

I've been a crafter for many years (ask my mum, I was painting before I could walk!)

I've worked as a Wedding & Events coordinator, and the crafts teacher in the community with LCC adults education and through Lancashire College.

Now retired through disability I'm unable to drive, but that has not curtailed my love of crafting nor my willingness to help others to find respite from stress or from loneliness.

I teach Cardmaking, Calligraphy, Silk Painting, Rubberstamping, Stitched Patterns and many more. Join us to find out more.

Our Story

Loving Yarns and Crafts has originally started with the Giant Friendship Blanket challenge as a way of coping with a new reality and helping out local charities during COVID-19 pandemic. The idea was to make granny squares, sew them together into beautiful baby blankets and donate to charities to help children in need. After a quick shout out to my “crafty” friends and knitting/crochet communities I was amazed by the response. People started donating their handcrafted squares and the Giant Friendship Blanket started to grow.

As Covid lockdown restrictions started to lift there was a growing focus of mental wellbeing, as it was clear that isolation has impacted mental health of society young and old alike. As I found my healing in crafts, I believed that they can help others as well. My aim was run a range of small group craft events so that people can enjoy local social meetings and find healing or distraction through various crafts. I understood that there are still many people like myself who suffer from health conditions which means extra care is required.  Thus in forming the group the emphasis was placed on minimising contact and keeping the group small and manageable. We hired the small hall in Grimsargh Village Hall and Grimsargh Yarn Group classes started September 2021.

Now in 2022 we are running a wide range of Craft Classes, different Skillshare Workshops and monthly, regular Knit & Natter Sessions. We also do Art based Therapy Sessions and Wellbeing Sessions like Meditation and Breathwork thanks to our connections with like minded professionals who attend as guest tutors. Basically it's about getting a better quality of life through focuses and activities for ourselves and through helping charities.

Our friendly group is suitable for all adults who wish to join us. Each session is run to make people feel welcome and is ideal for those who don't like attending large groups or public settings. We welcome all abilities, we cater for food intolerances as best as we can, and our facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Our charity project - The Giant Friendship Blanket Challenge continues to grow, and last year we have managed to cover 63m2 in handcrafted baby blankets and provided a Christmas gift to 100 displaced children and families in need.

We believe that as individuals we all have needs but also we can all help others. By proving a social setting we enable individuals to join in a local intimate meeting, enjoy the social side and  build new friendships.

You don't have to be arty, you just need an open mind and the motivation to join in. Please feel free to call us at 07702 043183 for a chat if you want to discuss any of the groups workshops.
